After getting a reasonably good rank, many of us are still regretting for IIITM Gwalior not making it into the elite 10. Now since we are in top 25, getting into the league of elite 10 is the next challenge for which we have to travel a long journey, which would take a few more years. Looking at the pace we are moving at now, being amongst the top 10 engineering institutions is not a day dream.

8th Aug'09: Prof. VARUN ARYA in Campus!
The SH2 Syndrome:
around 143 chairs, 3 sofas, 1 podium, 1 LCD projector, fully wired echo proof sound system, one white board, 2 markers with a spare duster in 50'x60' syndicate hall with one Balkishan (:P) have witnessed many speeches on various issues from interfaces of every walk of life. Podium remains the same, people keep changing.
'The SH2 Syndrome' once again witnessed the presence of an eminent personality of education sector in India. Prof. Varun Arya graced the gathering of budding managers on pious evening of Saturday 8th Aug.
Prof. Varun Arya, a product of IIT Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad has over 16 years of experience in the senior positions with the leading companies. He holds a strong expertise in Sales & Marketing, Business Development and Profit Centre (SBUs) Management. For the last eight years he is associated with the shaping up of Aravali Institute of Management as a world-class management institute at Jodhpur in Rajasthan. In this capacity, he has also been the member of the Consultative Committee of FITT (Foundation for Innovation & Technology Transfer), the Institute-Industry interaction wing of IIT Delhi and the Academic Council of Global Business School, New Delhi. He has also been a part of the advisory committee in leading educational institutions and NGO’s. He also imparts his educational and industrial experience to the young minds through his lectures and workshops. Prof. Arya sincerely believes that people who have done well in their career and life should go back to their roots at a suitable time to do something constructive and substantial for their home state. This led to the birth of Aravali Institute of Management (AIM) in April 2000 which is the first management institute in Rajasthan having affiliation to the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the prestigious IIMs.
The jammed jamboree of SH2 was hypnotized by inspiring lecture of prof. Arya.The way he was presenting the things with his reallife experiences, we rarely see.
Yesterday when i saw a guest lecture notice in mess notice board, i thought this is going to be another normal boring lecture and hence erased the schedule from my mind just after noticing the notice.
In the evening, around 4 a phone call disturbed me with intimidation to attend the gathering.(Don't ask who intimidated !)
Anyhow i was brought.
Believe me or not the effect of the session on me is so mesmerizing that now I'm feeling happy in spoiling my weekend in silly writing for IIITM blog.
Even if an idealist would remain abuzz on seeing a person for whom president of India make exception. A man who made J.M Lingdoh to do exception for him; A man whose educational initiative has got F.M as no. 4 in BoG members. :O ; A man who has gone everywhere from nowhere; A man who has a novel for every question; A man who bent the tide each time he tried; A man who adamantly says 'no' to a chief minister; A man who made Rahul Bajaj to wear formals for his occasion; A man who used to spent times with Kiran Bedi during her troubled times; A man when her daughter went to an US university for higher education and during introduction she said my name is *** Arya and I'm from Jodhpur, then she was interrupted with reply, "are you daughter of Varun Arya ?".

Prof. Varun Arya is the man of Values, a true face of ethical networking, a man with whom PM wish to spent his spare time, a symbol of simplicity. On entering in SH2 i thought he might be a parent of some newly admitted student :) .

Team from IIITM won the 1st position in Lord of the code 2007-08
Team comprising of Rahul Kala,Chandra Prakash,Dhirender Sharma and Rahul Khandelwal secured 1st position in Lord of the code. The competition was organized by Kanwal Rekhi School of Information Technology (KReSIT), IIT Bombay and Red Hat.
Their software was titled "Central System for Admission to Universities (CSAU)" The project is available under Creative Commons License at the project site.
This is the 2nd time consequitivetly that IIITM has won the first position in this competition.

Abstract:
We are very much acquainted with the fact that looking at the diversity of courses offered in each university and the number of colleges per university, it is very difficult for both the students and the university officials to co-ordinate.We propose to make a central system ‘Central System for Admission to Universities (CSAU)’ that can be used by the universities and other organizations like CCB/AIEEE for having end-to-end solutions to every phase of the admission right from the application submission to the allotment of the college, branch and hostel..The main idea is to automate the entire task, making it a lot more time-saving, cost-saving and easily accessible by the students, officials and Universities.

- Security of the system from illegal intrusions

Innovation:
The system has a very strong back-end design which has been especially designed and analyzed exhaustively with a lot of time and effort. At the time of design we had come to know of enumerable number of ways in which an examination/counseling can be conducted (eg. Counseling procedures for CAT MBA, counseling patterns for MP PET, examination system of IIT JEE(screening and mains), examination system for AIEEE(one paper, fully objective)). The back-end design needs no modification whatsoever to adapt to any of these changes, only modifications to the front-end and business logic are required.
The market which consists of Indian Universities, organizations like AIEEE/CCB and IIT-JEE, university like IIITM, Gwalior which takes students from outside examinations like CAT admissions for MBA. Because of the use, the software is likely to be sold directly to these organizations
Saving paper, resources, manpower, money is a social cause. Since government is the major customer, the govt. money would be saved which can be used for development.

Upgradation of IIITM gwalior to IIT Gwalior...

Bt the problem is in implementation ...
May be we can see the such upgradation in future ... :

But on another question on the issue of upgradation of ABV-IIITM (Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management), Gwalior to an IIT raised by Maya Singh in Rajya Sabha, Purandeswari, in a written reply to this question said that, “Madhya Pradesh is already having various centrally funded technical educational institutions viz MANIT (Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology), Bhopal; ABV-IIITM, Gwalior; PDPM-IIITDM (Pt Dwarka Prasad Mishra Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur and IIM (Indian Institute of Management) at Indore. Further, IISER (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research) has been approved in Bhopal. Planning commission has given its ‘in-principle’ approval for setting up a School of Planning and Architecture in Bhopal. At present, there is no proposal to upgrade ABV-IIITMG, Gwalior to an IIT.

Institute is going well ..it is in the hand of students how they can use their potentials for the upliftment of the institute profile and ranking..
This institute is young now let the product come out we would prove some day what we are..
Therefore this is my appeal that instead of pointing finger to other just look at your self and see what you are doing for the institute and also don't only point out the problems also come out with the feasible solution.

IIITM-G over the Years:ACHIEVEMENTS OF IIITM, Family
Recognition of the quality of students at IIITM
Many government organizations, NGOs and corporate houses have approached IIITM for students to develop real-life software solutions. A leading NGO, Prayas, has invited a team of students for developing a network-based Organization Recourse Planning (ORP) software. MP-SAF has invited IIITM students to develop inventory control software for them.
• All India Strategic Model Contest-2001: Abhay Panjiyar, Parminder Singh and Shikhar Kumar, students of 5 year integrated programme won an all India Strategic Model contest organized by MA-PIT on the topic “Designing a Strategic Model to develop MP as an IT HUB by 2005”. The Model was forwarded to Ministry of IT for implementation.
• International Business Model Contest- Singapor: Shadab Hussain and Sumit Gupta, students of MBA, were short-listed for participation in an International Business Model Contest held in Singapore in 2001.
• All India Open Software Contest- IIT Guwahati: Abhay Panjiyar, student of 5 year integrated programme, won 2nd prize in an All India Open Software Contest held in IIT Guwahati in Oct ‘02 for developing software ‘i-School’ for management of schools.
• Paper Presentation Contest-IIT Guwahati: Prashant Singh, student of 5 year integrated programme, won 2nd prize in technical paper presentation contest at IIT Guwahati in Oct ’02..
Technical Paper Presentation: Prashant Singh and Chaitanya Pampana, students of 5-year integrated programme won 1st prize for their paper on ‘Quantum Computing’ at Anand Engg. College, Agra in Mar ’02.
Technical Quiz: Prashant Singh and Chaitanya Pampana, students of 5-year integrated programme won 2nd prize in the technical quiz held during IIT Roorkee Tech fest in Jan ’02.
Other Achievements: Students successfully competed in a number of competitions held in Gwalior, including participation in debates, quizzes and business plan presentations held at Jiwaji Institute of Management, Prestige Institute of Management and LNIPE. Students also participated in debate competitions at Indraprastha University and IIT Delhi and brought encomiums to the institute.
• More than 10 students of current final batch were selected for interviews in a nation- wide internship program conducted by MeritTrac for Microsoft India and one cleared it.
• A team of students ranked 1st in the IBM’s National Level Software Design Contest “The Great Mind Challenge 2006”.
• A team of students won first prize in “Lord of Code” contest organized by Red Hat and Kanwal Rekhi school of Information Technology, IIT Bombay.
• More than 15 students were shortlisted for the interview in prestigious “Code4Bill” initiative by Microsoft in 2006 and two of them finally got selected.
• Every year students perform very well, in ACM’s programming contest “International Collegiate Programming Contest” (ACM – ICPC).
• Most of the prizes were won by students of ABV-IIITM, Gwalior in first ever meet of TWARAN – an Inter-IIIT sports meet.
• A student from IIITM achieved 1st in reliance great programming challenge- 2008.
• Students of the institute have been constantly achieving under ten ranks in GATE every year.
• A large number of research papers are published every year by the students in various international conferences and journals like IJCSNS, ICSAIM, ICIW Athens Greece, ISFRSM, IJBEM Canada, IIM Kozhikode etc.
• IIITM team won the Open Software Contest and Paper Presentation Contest at IIIT Allahabad.
• A IIITM student made it to the top 50 of ‘Microsoft Heroes Happen Here’ Contest.

Do we really need to be converted
On April 5th, 2009 ipg_200611 says:What I believe is that IIIT gwalior should not be converted into IIT..IIITs are having their own identity and they are specialized institute of ministry of india. If we make them IIT their identity will be dissolved just like ROORKEE..which previously has its own importance. IIIT has potential students , funds and infrastructure to make themselves upto level of IIT.. but it would surely take some time.
IITs are brand because of their Alumni.
Once I met a guy in IIM-Ahmedabad his name was "Vaibhav Bhamoria " h was ISM dhanbad passout. I just said that ISM should be converted to IIT ..he said that there is strong resistance from the Alumni as they dont want to liquefy the identity of being the best mining institute of india by making it IIT.
Government has plan to open around 15-16 IIIT's all over india in different states ..this will surely give a momentum in the enhancement of the publicity of the IITs...And IIIT gwalior is the 1st among those IIITs...
