IIITM G :HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: 5.0 LAND FOR THE CAMPUS
A committee headed by Prof. S K Khanna, Chairman AICTE looked at different sites for the campus at Gwalior and identified the suitable ones. Out o these sites ,the Government of Madhya Pradesh had allotted land for the campus free of cost, first at the village Sonjana, 9 Kilometers on Tighara Road on 16th January, 96. The Ministry of Environment and Forest Govt. of India did not agree to de-notify this land on 6th June 1998 as was shown as forestland in old documents. The MP Govt. allocated 60.67 hectares of land on Morena Road in Village Sewage farm, Gwalior. The land has been transferred to the Institute on16th October1998.This land is in the foothills of Gwalior Fort and located nearly equidistant from the Gwalior Railway station and the Airport. One face of the Site is the Morena Road linking Gwalior with National Highway No.3.
